Benim Scholastic Academy’s mission is to provide children with individualized education and experiences that are necessary to maximize their social, emotional, physical and cognitive potential. Benim Scholastic Academy integrates Creative Curriculum and Social Thinking Curriculum as part of a solid learning model.
Daily learning experiences and thematic lessons are presented to the children using a variety of sensory experiences. Young children learn through a combination of structured activities, pretend play and choice activities. The underlying principle is learning-by-doing, where play, hands on experiences and creativity are the vehicle that guides children to learn about themselves as well as others.
In addition to academic readiness, a major focus of the Benim Scholastic Academy is the development of social skills. Social curriculum goals focus on processes rather than isolated skills; therefore, mastery is reflected along a continuum of growth. Dr. Benim has over a decade of experience working with families and children from pre-school to post secondary school levels. Currently, Dr. Benim founded and directs Benim Social Academy, which offers weekly social skills groups and full day summer camp, for children ages 4-14, with social and emotional challenges.
Dr. Benim has worked as a school psychologist at A Starting Place preschool in Pearl River, New York. In addition, Dr. Benim held school psychologist positions in Bergen County, N.J., working with children from pre-school age through high school. Furthermore, Dr. Benim received her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology and Education from Columbia University after graduating from Rutgers University with an undergraduate degree in psychology.
While drawing upon her education and in-depth clinical experience, Dr. Benim is also the mother of three young children. As she watched the developmental milestones of her own children, Dr. Benim came to realize the need to create a school that would embody the essential needs of each individual child. Her determination to develop a foundation for learning, where the promotion of educational, social and emotional well-being existed for all children became clear and paramount.
Benim Scholastic Academy was established on the principles that all child are individuals, have different learning styles, personal dispositions and characteristics. Therefore, our staff utilizes an eclectic approach to design the optimal fit for each and every child. Different modalities of instruction are applied to promote individual development.
